New Maternity, Baby and Kids Consignment Boutique Alternative Launches Online

(PRWEB) February 13, 2012

Parents and parents-to-be looking to stretch their family budget need only look to a new online consignment alternative and auction site to buy or sell maternity clothing, toys, and children’s items — all at a fraction of what they’d pay in retail stores.

Parents-Marketplace.com offers the budget savvy the chance to buy and sell their maternity, baby and children’s items through free unlimited listings and with no consignment or auction fees. A variety of well known designer clothes, furniture, toys and baby equipment can all be found for sale, with new items added daily by users.

“We wanted a website that made it simple for parents to use,” said the site’s co-founder, Shannon Harvey, “and we wanted them to look to us as a go-to source for saving money, finding bargains, and stretching their family dollar.”

For parents looking to outfit a nursery or clean out a toy box, Parents-Marketplace.com is a one-stop shop and kids consignment boutique. The user friendly store makes buying and selling items as simple as possible — the site features tips on placing listings and even offers a handy resource so that sellers know how much to charge for items. Merchandise can be placed for sale locally or nationally, and clearly defined categories help both sellers and buyers find one another.

Items can be listed for sale or auction under a number of categories including furniture, clothing, activities, toddler gear, room decor and many others.

For a reasonable fee, sellers can easily upgrade their listing placement or feature the listing in bold so that buyers can find their merchandise quickly and efficiently.

Play Can Be Effective for Improving Kids? Eating Habits, Cleaner Plate Club Interviews Meghan Lynch, University of Toronto, Dalla Lana School of Public Health

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) January 30, 2012

?Play food settings can be used to improve children?s familiarity with healthy foods and thus, their willingness to try these foods in real life,? says nutritional behavior researcher, Meghan Lynch.

Lynch?s observations come from her recent research study, ?Playing With Food: A Novel Approach To Understanding Nutritional Behaviour Development.? The study was very unique in that Lynch leveraged user-posted home videos on YouTube to be able to observe natural interaction between parents and young children in play kitchen settings. Lynch shared her observations and offered some helpful insights for parents in an interview with Beth Bader, co-author of The Cleaner Plate Club.

Food familiarity is one of the ways parents can improve their children?s picky eating behaviors. Away from the real food fights that can occur at the dinner table, play settings and toy foods can help children get accustomed to a new food, including vegetables.

?The more familiar the food, the more likely the child will be to taste it. Importantly, children?s food preferences can be encouraged through their merely seeing these foods on a regular basis, and that repeated exposure to foods can overcome the initial refusal of them,? says Lynch.

However, in Lynch?s study, the foods most children were familiarizing themselves with in the play settings were less than healthful, suggesting play time reinforcement of unhealthy diets.

?Unfortunately, many children were seen interacting with toy foods that more closely reflect typical Western diets of high-fat and energy-dense foods. The most common toy foods in the videos were nutrient-poor foods, such as cookies, fries, onion rings, and ice-cream. Children?s choices in food preparation in the play settings were dominated by behaviours reflective of family food-practices that are, unfortunately, detrimental to healthy nutritional development, such as reliance on easy-to-prepare foods.?

The full interview, offering insight on positive ways to use play food settings, is available online at The Cleaner Plate Club web site.

New DVD Gets Kids Hooked on Eating Fruits and Vegetables

Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) January 24, 2012

COPY-KIDS MEDIA, an independent media company, presents its debut DVD. Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables is the first DVD in a series designed to encourage healthy habits in young children. This series is for children aged six months to 5 years.

Watch the Trailer: http://vimeo.com/24151268

Copy Kids Eat Fruit and Vegetables is divided into 12 chapters, each focusing on a different fruit or vegetable. The yummy veggies and fruits include: Bell Peppers, Cucumbers, Carrots, Avocado, Tomatoes, Broccoli, Oranges, Bananas, Raspberries, Strawberries, Apples & Blueberries.

The genesis for the project came when Cai Dixon noticed her young daughter was more willing to try new fruits and vegetables when she saw another child eating them. Bella liked to copy. Dixon wondered if the experience had to be live, or if a video of children eating fruits and vegetables would also work? ?It did, and not just with Bella,? recalls Dixon. And so a concept was born: Find children who LOVE to eat fruits and veggies, film them eating them ? and make the video available to parents. It?s that simple. Says Dixon, ?I never would have expected my child to eat raw broccoli ? but she demanded it as soon as she saw another child eating it on TV. Now it is one of her favorite vegetables.?

Director Malona Badelt was volunteering at an orphanage in Ghana when she was asked to direct Copy-Kids. She literally got off the plane in LA and drove to a test shoot that same day. She fell in love with the project and was able to coax the most amazing performances out of each cast member. It?s unscripted and quirky, with children behaving authentically, which gives it surprise and comedy. ?I would never have gotten such amazing performances if the video had been scripted,? says Badelt. ?Each child brought his or her own piece of magic to the project.?

For parents, the DVD also features an interview with renowned pediatrician Dr. Jay Gordon, MD, FAAP, author of Good Food Today, Great Kids Tomorrow. He talks about childhood overweight and obesity, suggests ways that parents can get their children to make healthier food choices, and explains why Copy-Kids is such a powerful idea, noting “That’s just the way kids are, they love to copy other kids.”

Selected as one of the 10 Best Audio/Visuals for 2011 by Stevanne Auerbach, PhD. / Dr. Toy. http://www.drtoy.com/product-view/?productid=119 It?s a unique tool for parents who want to encourage healthy eating in their children.

This innovative DVD is engaging & enchanting ? kids want to play it over and over as they learn to love these healthy foods. Dixon adds, ?Just be sure you have these foods at home ? because your kids are going to want to eat what the Copy-Kids are eating.?

Running time: 115 mins
