Plow & Hearth Introduces WaterColors: A Contest to Support Water Conservation

(PRWEB) March 14, 2012

Most Americans live within a mile of a river or stream and everyone needs to do their part to protect this valuable natural resource. Healthy rivers give us clean drinking water, support habitats for fish and wildlife and provide endless recreational opportunities. Simple steps can help conserve water and save money too. Try turning off the water while brushing your teeth to save two gallons a minute. And fix leaky faucets ? one drip per minute can waste up to 2,700 gallons a year. In your yard, use mulch to help retain ground moisture, and when you do water, early mornings and late evenings are the best times.

From rivers to tree roots to drinking water and beyond, clean water keeps the world flowing. Plow & Hearth has decided to raise awareness for American Rivers, the nation?s leading river conservation organization by launching the WaterColors contest.

To enter simply submit an artistic expression inspired by water and colors. These creations may be photos of rain barrels, water bottles or watering cans that have been painted. Anything that captures the spirit of Water Colors, including photos of the creative ways a particular garden has been planted, drawings of rivers, poems or stories about water. Plow & Hearth?s sustainability committee says ?It?s the perfect opportunity to be creative, express yourself and support a great organization” by raising awareness.

Entries will be collected through September 30, 2012. Once the contest has ended, up to five finalists will be selected from all entries. The final selection will be placed on Plow & Hearth Facebook for bidding purposes for the 3 Grand Prize winners.

NPD DisplaySearch: 2011 TV Shipments Fall After Six Consecutive Years of Growth

Santa Clara, Calif. (PRWEB) March 14, 2012

In 2011 worldwide TV shipments fell for the first time since NPD DisplaySearch began tracking global TV shipments in 2004, slipping 0.3% to 247.7M units. As reported in the latest NPD DisplaySearch Quarterly Global TV Shipment and Forecast Report, LCD TV shipments increased by 7% to just over 205M units in 2011?a substantial slowdown from the double digit growth in previous years. With plasma TV shipments declining almost 7% in 2011 to 17.2M units, the largest decline yet, and CRT shipments falling 34%, LCD growth was not enough to offset these declines.

?The causes of slow demand in 2011 were complex, and although LCD TV showed growth, results were well below industry expectations.? noted Paul Gagnon, NPD DisplaySearch Director of North America TV Research. Gagnon added, ?The low level of shipments were partially caused by excessive inventory levels early in 2011 for the US and European markets, as well as a sharp drop in demand in Japan following the end of the government sponsored Eco-Points program that caused a surge in replacement activity during 2009-2010.?

Q4?11 shipments were down 4% Y/Y globally to 74.2M units, with LCD TV shipments rising just 1% (also the lowest growth rate since NPD DisplaySearch began tracking shipments). Plasma TV units were down 8% and CRTs were down 43%. The decline in units was most pronounced in Japan and Western Europe with only mild growth in North America. Collectively, TV shipments in the developed regions (North America, Japan and Western Europe) declined 21% Y/Y in Q4?11. TV shipment growth in emerging regions continues to be strong though, increasing 12% Y/Y in Q4?11 with LCD TV unit shipments rising 20%.

The LCD TV shipment share increased to a record 86.5% of global TV shipments in Q4?11, up from 83% in Q3?11 and 82% one year ago. LCD TV shipment growth is strongest in larger screen sizes with very aggressively priced models shipping for the holiday season. Shipments of 40? and larger LCD TVs rose 20% Y/Y while sub-40? fell 7%. Average prices for 40/42? LCD TVs were down 11% Y/Y, and 60?+ average LCD TV prices were down more than 16% Y/Y. LED backlight penetration continues to grow slowly, rising above 50% of LCD units for the first time in Q4?11, although only about three percentage points higher than in Q3?11. The high premium for edge-lit LED LCD TVs is still an inhibitor to adoption, but new low-cost direct-lit LED models arriving in 2012 will help speed adoption.

Plasma TV unit shipments continued to decline, falling 8% Y/Y in Q4?11 after a 14% decline in Q3?11 and 6% decline in Q2?11. This decline demand coincides with a shift to larger screen sizes and focus on greater profitability, with the 50?+ share of plasma TV shipments increasing more than 50% for the first time in Q4?11.

China remained the top region for TV shipments at 21%, unchanged from the previous quarter, totaling 15.6M units for the quarter and 49M units for the year. China also had strong growth in 2011, with shipments increasing 19% Y/Y in Q4?11, the highest of any region. More than 90% of TV sets in the region were LCD as of 2011. North America was the second largest region for TV shipments, accounting for 20.5% of shipments in Q4?11, and was the only developed region to experience Y/Y shipment growth.

3D Shipment Share Continues to Rise, Increasing to 14% of Global TV Shipments in Q4?11

3D continues to show gains worldwide as a percentage of TV shipments, posting gains in every region, but most impressively in China and Europe. In a somewhat surprising result, 3D penetration continues to be lackluster in North America, accounting for just 9% of Q4?11 TV shipments as opposed to 21% in Western Europe and 23% in China. 3D TVs accounted for more than 24M units shipped worldwide in 2011.

Samsung Expands #1 Flat Panel TV Market Share to Record Levels

Samsung?s global flat panel TV revenue share increased in Q4?11 to 26.3%, which is a record level for any brand and a three percentage point increase from Q3. Samsung was also the revenue market share leader in both LCD and plasma. This was the first time that a brand other than Panasonic led in global plasma TV market revenues. Samsung was also the top brand in 3D TV and LED TV shipments. LGE was the #2 brand worldwide at 13.4% and, besides Samsung, was the only other top five TV brand to see revenue growth Y/Y in Q4?11. Sony rounded out the top three at almost 10% revenue share, but saw a more than 30% decline in revenues Y/Y.

NPD DisplaySearch TV market intelligence, including panel and TV shipments, TV shipments by region, brand, size, resolution, frame rate and backlight type for nearly 60 brands, rolling 16-quarter forecasts, TV cost/price forecasts and design wins can be found in its Quarterly Global TV Shipment and Forecast Report – Advanced version. Changes to the Tablet Market to Blur Line between Tablets and Notebooks, According to NPD Connected Intelligence Research

Port Washington, New York (PRWEB) March 14, 2012

Reflecting shifts in both the competitive landscape and consumer demand, the tablet market is poised to accommodate new form factors and accessory options that will bring these devices closer to the capabilities of notebooks, according to a new report from The NPD Group?s Connected Intelligence?. The report, Tablets: Resizing the Smartphone, Redefining the Notebook, examines the impact of upcoming competitors to Apple?s iPad (including Android 4.0 and Windows 8), competition versus ultrabooks, accessory options, and implications of the growing tablet market for wireless carriers, cable operators, and content providers.

While the introduction of Windows 8 tablets later in 2012 will not steal significant share from the notebook market, it will be a strong factor behind the blurring of PCs and tablets. Many Windows 8 tablets stand to have larger screen sizes and more advanced configurations, but they will, most importantly, have the ability to function as a full PC, causing PC vendors to rethink some marketing and sales strategies.

?PC vendors must balance the opportunity to sell an integrated Windows 8 device that can potentially operate in both tablet and clamshell form factors with the opportunity to sell secondary companion tablet devices that may be smaller and less expensive,? said Ross Rubin, executive director of NPD Connected Intelligence. ?Among consumers who are looking to purchase a new tablet, screen size and keyboards, two main components of a PC, are important characteristics for these future purchases.?

According to the report, 40 percent of tablet purchase intenders who have a screen size in mind would prefer a screen smaller than 10 inches. Access to a physical keyboard is desired by 40 percent of consumers who plan to purchase a tablet. Of that 40 percent, most prefer an integrated keyboard over a detachable or docking keyboard.

?The lack of a keyboard has been a defining characteristic of most tablets on the market,? said Rubin. ?However, access to a keyboard is the most popular reason why consumers who own both a tablet and a notebook use their notebook for tasks such as Web access and personal productivity. As tablets expand from content consumption to content creation, consumers are seeking a broader array of input options and screen sizes.?

About Connected Intelligence

Connected Intelligence provides competitive intelligence and insight on the rapidly evolving consumer?s connected environment. The service focuses on the three core components of the connected market: the device, the broadband access that provides the connectivity and the content that drives consumer behavior. These three pillars of the connected ecosystem are analyzed through a comprehensive review of what is available, adopted, and consumed by the customer, as well as reviewing how the market will evolve over time and what the various vendors can do to best position themselves in this evolving market. ?Consilium Cares!? Service beyond the workplace embodies Consilium Staffing?s core value.

Valley View, Texas (PRWEB) March 14, 2012

Consilium Staffing employees volunteered their time at Our Children?s House at Baylor Healthcare System in Dallas as a part of the company?s employee volunteer program, ?Consilium Cares.? This program embodies the company?s core value of service and is designed to allow their employees the opportunity to volunteer once a quarter with various organizations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Our Children?s House at Baylor Healthcare System is a licensed pediatric hospital where care is comprehensive and healing is fun. Children from infancy through age 18 receive care for developmental or birth disorders, traumatic injury and severe illness. Emily Turner, manager of marketing and volunteers at Our Children?s House added, ?that our mission is to provide family-centered, supportive, pediatric therapy services for children in need of special care.?

During their time at Our Children?s House, Consilium employees interacted with children and their families in the playroom with games and craft projects, worked with the staff to clean toys and the family-friendly courtyard. ?The staff was excellent in engaging and really caring about each patient that was in our playroom. I was truly impressed with their willingness to dive in and help each patient and each family with anything that they needed,? said Amanda Kaczmarek, Child Life Assistant at Our Children?s House.

?Spending time with the children and families was a very rewarding experience. Whether it was playing basketball with the kids, pulling them around in a wagon or finger painting, the kids had a wonderful time and it was great to see them enjoy the afternoon. It took a very small investment of our time to spend an afternoon helping others that are in need,? said Kyle Etter, Vice President of Account Management.

Tinley Treadway, a Senior Recruiting Consultant at Consilium who has volunteered with Our Children?s House previously, said, ?Giving back and making a difference in the world and more importantly someone?s life, is the bottom line for me. Caring for others and making sure we can be a light to someone less fortunate is meaningful in this short life that we all live.?

?We are thrilled that our employees have embraced our community service efforts with Consilium Cares,? said Matthew Baade, Vice President at Consilium. He added that ?our goal of providing service to more than just our clients, but also to our community has been a success and we look forward to our next Consilium Cares event.?

The term, “locum tenens” is a Latin phrase that means to “hold the place of.” Consilium Staffing assists hospitals, primary care offices, urgent care centers, correctional institutions, and other healthcare facilities, when those facilities are under-staffed by partnering with physicians, nurse practitioners, and/or physician assistants who are able to provide coverage on a temporary or contract basis.

Hyena Cart Fund-Raising Auction Raises $33,000 for Popular DIY Blogger

Portland, Ore. (PRWEB) March 12, 2012

After a three-day fund-raising auction on Hyena Cart, more than $ 33,000 was raised recently for popular artist and DIY blogger Ashley Hackshaw, who was diagnosed last fall with an aggressive form of cancer.

After discovering in November that she has Choriocarcinoma, Hackshaw began blogging about her experiences with surgery and chemotherapy on her wildly popular Lil Blue Boo crafting blog.

Soon after, more than 20 of her friends and followers from around the country banded together to organize and launch an online auction on Hyena Cart, with proceeds going to her rising medical bills.

The group of women, calling themselves Team Ashley, launched the auction last week on Hyena Cart, which houses more than 1,000 individually owned online stores offering a broad spectrum of products for the family.

Hackshaw is very well known among the DIY and crafting ?set? and was named Babble’s most creative Mominee. About 150,000 visitors per week read Hackshaw’s blog, and she has more than 20,000 enthusiastic friends on Facebook.

Melanie Behles, of Goshen, Ind. and Wendy Russell, of Prosper, Tex., helped organize the auction along with the rest of Team Ashley, gathering about 250 donations from artists and companies all over the country.

Products in the auction included uplifting artwork, jewelry, children?s clothing, dolls, toys and more. Hackshaw?s favorite saying now is ?choose joy,? which Behles and Russell said was a theme among many of the donated items.

Behles said that some of the ?hot ticket? items on the Hyena Cart auction included two passes to shop early at Matilda Jane?s summer art fair sale (and receive 10 free items), a handmade Waldorf doll from Bamboletta dolls and a Choose Joy painting by artist Stephanie Corfee.

?Team Ashley could not be happier to be able to give such a great gift to the Hackshaw family on behalf of her internet fans and family,? Behles said.

About Hyena Cart

Hyena Cart started as a shopping cart for Karen Lee?s Kool Sheep Soakers. From there, it has grown to incorporate more than 1,000 active sellers offering a variety of natural products. Most of the sellers are moms, known as ?mompreneurs,? who operate their own online businesses using the Hyena Cart platform to facilitate online shopping. The most popular seller categories include cloth diapers, clothing, hand-knit items, hand-dyed yarn and toys.
